In the UK how much would you expect to pay for a wedding bouquet?

Nothing fancy - say freesias, hyacinths, tulips and some greenery. Tied up with natural raffia, not ribbon.

Have been quoted £65 and I admit I was astonished. Am I just being naive?

In the UK how much would you expect to pay for a wedding bouquet?
I did not recieve any quotes under £60. Mine is 80 but is all roses and takes a little work to make as it has pearl pins between each of the flowers. This is being made by a friend so trust her to have given me a good price.
Reply:I was shocked when the florist quoted me £60.00! It will grieve me when I toss the bouquet, I will ask the single woman if I could have it back lol!
Reply:I would say that is pretty reasonable, I live in London UK and had a pomander of roses, say about 20 roses and this was mixed in with blue fluffy feathers and it cost me £150!!!! Believe it or not that was the cheapest quote I got. It really depends from town to town and florist to florist
Reply:yes and more why not get a good book from the library and give a go loads of brides do it [yes they do]
Reply:in the us its like 40,000
Reply:Shop around, independent florists will be helpful, especially if you have a clear idea as to what you want. Why not ask a creative friend to make one for you?

Can someone help me find a book? Can't remember author or title!!?

I remember all the characters - there was an orphan girl called Lily or maybe Lilly/Lillie!, adopted by a bloke called Black Jack, who was a rich widower with two children, Jon and Margaret. Lily grows up with this family, in love with Jon and they marry. Jon goes off to war - later Lily marries a bloke called Brock. I think she has a child who drowns or maybe he saves someone from drowning. Sorry the details are sketchy!! She has a mother called Rose who abandoned her, and she hates the smell of freesias. It is set in Leeds, UK. Does anyone know this book?

Can someone help me find a book? Can't remember author or title!!?

PEACE..!!!
Reply:I, too, thought the plot of the book sounded like a good read. Thank goodness someone found the title. Here's the book jacket blurb:

"Promises

(1982)

A novel by

Catherine Gaskin

A magnicicent saga of a woman's promise and the passion, tragedy and triumph that it brings. Black Jack Pollock inherited a fortune and married a beautiful, wild aristocrat. Shrewd, tough and unscrupulous, he was the last man to take pity on the bedraggled waif who was crushed beneath his carriage wheels. He took her home to Pelham Langley, his great house on the Yorkshire Moors. He named her Lally Leeds and she became the cornerstone of his motherless family. She was companion and friend to the lovely, wilful Margaret; she was the kindest support to the enchanting but handicapped Alice; and she was the greatest admirer of the beloved Jon - Black Jack's son and heir. Throughout the sunlit summer of 1914 the gilded Pollock family were the toast of the town. Only Lally felt unattractive and without a name - the ugly duckling. World War 1 took the young men off to the trenches. It took Lally too, crushed but unsurprised by Jon's marriage, off to France as a VAD. It was she who first met Brock Weymouth, the dark stranger who was to play such a vital role in the Pollock family's affairs - a man with as little right to his name as Lally had to hers. PROMISES sweeps from the agonies of World War 1 to the Jazz Age that followed, from the parties and rich life of Long Island society to the severity and bitterness of the Depression, through the tragedy and disaster to the ultimate and unexpected triumph and the new destiny of Pelham Langley."

While having fun trying to locate the title of your book, I got caught up reading an 1860s book, Beulah, by August Evans.

Happy reading!
Reply:i have no idea wut you are like talking bout!!! but if you do find it out like tell me, it sounds good!!!
Reply:Is it the UK version of "Pride and Prejudice"? Maybe if you visit the library and ask the librarian about that novel, she might pick several titles for you.

Where do you cut flowers not when where?

I have gladiola's, freesias, Roses, Acidanthera , and a few more. I just started the flower garden thing so I need a little help with a few things Like I said where do I cut them, when there ready? Also does mothballs really help with armollias, I think I spelt that right? do any of the flowers listed above Multiply. I see my gladiols do , but does the rest?

Where do you cut flowers not when where?
gladiola's you can cut anywhere. on roses the top leaves have 3 leaves as you go farther down you will have 5 leaves. cut just above any of the 5 leaf ones. also if you want long stem roses as they start to bud if you have more that 1 bud per stem, trim off the outter buds. which are considered secondary.

I think freesias will multiply.
Reply:The Japanese who grow flowers by the acre cut their flowers at 18". For many reasons, but primarily because a cut flower needs some stalk to draw nutrients up and into the flowers head. With a short stalk cut flowers don't last very long and may perish before they reach their destination.
Reply:I'm not the best with a green thumb, but when I'm cutting flowers for vases and what not, usually I take the vase out with me, and cut a little more than needed - I can trim them up later to get the right fit for the container. Try taking selections from all over the plant, not just in one spot.

I'm sure there are other suggestions as well

What types and colour flowers would go with burgundy bridesmaid dresses?

I'm wearing an ivory wedding dress and having burgundy bridesmaid dresses. Initially I planned to have a dark plum colour for the bridesmaids as my favourite colour is purple but the dresses which suited my bridesmaids best came in burgundy (the closest colour they had).

I was going to have cream roses with purple freesias and purple sweet peas. Do freesias and sweet peas come in burgundy? (I can't find any pictures) and would some purple flowers go with burgundy, which is a bit more red?

What types and colour flowers would go with burgundy bridesmaid dresses?
hi bina, there's a burgundy rose with cream flecks through it ,the cream almost looks like paint splash's.. it's called abrakadabra.. it would be perfect for you ,mixed with a cream sweet pea or cream freesia.. for the brides maids a cream rose called vendella would be great.. if you go for cream for yourself it'll just blend in with the dress. where as if you go for the burgundy and leave the brides maids with the cream it'll compliment everything..if you want to put some colour in the bridesmaids dresses ,there's a lovely little flower called allium bullit.. it starts off really deep burgundy on the bottom and goes up to a purple at the top..another lovely burgundy one is zantadescia schwalder..also known as the calla lilly.. hope this helps.. good luck with the big day.. oh and yes i'm a florist..!!
Reply:cream or yellow so that it will contrast w/ the burgundy....avoid red, pink, or burgundy flowers....
Reply:I would say plain cream roses, wrapped with a burgundy ribbon, and little gems / diamonds protruding from the tops on sliver sticks that can't be seen!

Plain, Simple but so stylish and gorgeous looking!
Reply:try tiger lilies...some come white with a deep red center that would go well with the colors of your wedding or you could talk to a florist about what you are looking for
Reply:the cream and purple sound lovely, most florists will dye flowers to suit the colour you want if they don't match the colour you want.
Reply:I would stick with the cream roses which would be a contrast.
Reply:why do nt you have fr ur bridesmaids red roses with cream roses with a touch of all the other flower s ur having it would look lovely and in keeping with ur s

good luck its my turn in aug to get married
Reply:Yes sweet peas do come in burgundy. The cream roses sound lovely.
Reply:talk to the florist they may be able to spray them for you!!
Reply:Go for deep red and cream roses. They look lovely.
Reply:cream flowers, yellow and possibly burgundy roses. You can have them spayed to your desired colour.
Reply:You sound exactly like me I'm having cream roses with like that fancy Burgundy beading over the top.
Reply:I think a small round bouquet of white carnations and small pink roses would be very pretty and fresh in contrast to the burgundy. happy nuptuals
Reply:deep red and cream
Reply:you have the opposite to what i had, mine was burgundy, bridesmaid ivory, i chose dark red roses, cream lillies, looked lovely, a mixture in both, with the contrast colour more than the other
Reply:OMG ME AND YOU THINK SOOOO MUCH ALIKE!!!!

lol i'm having red bridesmaid dressing first i wanted purple myself. but anywas so i decide to use both those colors.

so red dresses and purple flowers...tahts what i'm doing. and then have the groom wear a purple tie and the groomsmen a red tie...thats what i'm doing!
Reply:Hi what I would do is have them have ivory roses to match your dress and you have burgundy flowers to match the bridesmaids. Im sure they come in burgundy i know freesias come in purple but I dont know about sweet peas. If you let the flourist know what you want then they should be able to do it for you.

Why not just all off you have purple flowers, in the colour purple you wanted. It will still look good and make your dress and the bridemaids dresses stand out.

Help with weeds!?

I have a garden in my front yard with roses, tulips, freesia, lilac, and two types of succulents (not sure what they are). It is a very full garden and looks great but I have these annoying vine type weeds that grow all over everything. It goes like crazy, wraps around my roses, takes over. I am constantly pulling them up and can never get them all - then in 2 days they are all back!

Is there some type of weed killer I can get that will get the vine thing but not hurt my plants? Any other ideas as to how I can get rid of these stinkin vines?

I would prefer to use something organic, if at all possible. Thanks!

Help with weeds!?
You can try a pre-emergent like Preen; although, I've had little luck with that specific product.

Organically, theres a corn extract/byproduct that a local orgainic gardening shop says works well as a weed suppressor in grass. The generic stuff is called Corn Gluten. This may work, its supposed to contain something that prevents seed germination so it should interfer with the other plants.
Reply:Try to cut the vine back so that only about 4 leaves are left near the ground. Then, use a household-type sprayer (like an old Windex bottle) and mix up some Killsall (glysophate) at the recommended concentration. Early in the morning (when there are few breezes) CAREFULLY spray the leaves (cover your "good" plants with plastic or a piece of cardboard if they are very close to the vine). Just wet the leaves. In 2 weeks, that vine will be DEAD and won't come back.

Make SURE the product you use contains ONLY glyphosate. Any other chemicals will kill your good plants.

I would guess that they are Dollar Weed. Not seeing them I can not tell.

The best way to get rid if them is take a good hunk of them them to a major local landscape nursery. Locals are more aware of the native common weeds. Do not even bother with Home Depot. Ask them for a chemical OR method that will get rid of them.

Take photos of the surrounding plants and the flower bed. Weeds are flowers we do not want. They require certain conditions to live. Your photo will show him what you are doing to provide the plants a happy home. And he can help you provide the ones you want with a happier home.

If your name is Verna I am really sorry for giving you those plants please forgive me! 8)

Oh, sorry.

Uhm, your brainwaves, isn't it?
Reply:Sleep is a natural state of bodily rest observed throughout the animal kingdom. It is common to all mammals and birds, and is also seen in many reptiles, amphibians and fish.

In humans, other mammals, and a substantial majority of other animals which have been studied — such as fish, birds, ants, and fruit-flies — regular sleep is essential for survival. However its purposes are only partly clear and are the subject of intense research

Drowsiness

Tryptophan

The amino acid tryptophan is a building block of the protein found in foods. It contributes to sleepiness. Carbohydrates make tryptophan more available to the brain, which is why carbohydrate-heavy meals containing tryptophan tend to cause drowsiness.

Melatonin

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that regulates sleepiness. It is made in the brain where tryptophan is converted into serotonin and then into melatonin, which is released at night by the pineal gland to induce and maintain sleep. Melatonin supplementation may be used as a sleep aid.

The "Post-Lunch Dip"

Many people have a temporary drop in alertness in early afternoon, commonly known as the post-lunch dip. While a large meal, rich in carbohydrates, can make a person feel sleepy, the post-lunch dip is mostly an effect of the biological clock. People naturally feel most sleepy at two different times of the day: about 2:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Alcohol

Alcoholic beverages aid relaxation and commonly are used as a sleep aid. Alcohol tends, however, to disrupt sleep throughout the night and can prevent the deeper stages of sleep from occurring

also the fact that mammals are warm blooded our bodies must conserve energy and we do this by sleeping,

little energy + sleep = less energy used meaning more energy.
Reply:Mayabe a better questin is what makes you not sleep - - - answers are - - to sleep - - - - - being able to "RELAX" and feel peacefull

Usually not being able to sleep - - would mean you have all these thoughts running around in your mind - - what am I doing tomorrow, where am I going, what time do I have to be here, what's going to happen when I get there - - with 5,463 thoughts going through your mind, lets hope you don't have to be sharp the next morning - because you will be tired then!

Why does it seem like all designer perfumes smell the same?

Do any smell like rose oil,Orchid, Freesia, or hyacinth's?

Why does it seem like all designer perfumes smell the same?
Stella's Sheer or the orginial, Stella. It's very rosy and wonderful!
Reply:Maybe because alot of people use similar ingredients and scents in their perfums. I would also assume that they use these ingredients so that they kind of play it safe. Because everyone likes different things. So maybe to appeal to alot of people with different tastes they try and make scents that are either floral, light etc. so that it's not too strong yet not too light. Basically just to appeal to alot of people because then they get more business. hope this makes sense! :)
Reply:It sounds like you prefer a single scent rather than a blend (which most perfumes are). You might try Valerie's Uncommon Scents: http://www.valeriesuncommonscents.com/se... She has single scents and blends. I've been quite happy with my purchases there.

Planting a garden for the first time in a looong time, I need a little guidance with websites if possible?

I live in zone 5 for planting. I remember growing up we had these flowers, but I don't remember how well they grew. I have a list of flowers that I would like to grow, but in different zones, i.e. 7-10 or 8-10. I need specifics, i.e. perennials or annuals, height, width, flower well, soil type, drainage) for the following flowers. If you do all the flowers with all the specifics I will give as best answer. I would give stars if I knew how. Thanks in advance!

1~Twinkle toes~zone 7-10

2~Dwarf Gladiolus~zone 7-10

3~Fringed Gladiolus~zone 8-10

4~Mixed Freesia~ zone 9-10

5~Mexican Shell Flowers~ zone 8-10

PS. Are pansies perennials?

Planting a garden for the first time in a looong time, I need a little guidance with websites if possible?
No pansies are not perennials. They are annuals. But there are a variety of garden books avaiable that you should purchase.

One is that I have is called the Gardeners Veggie Bible. It tells you everything about how to start garden, til how to make a compost and a leave pile. I have learned a lot of it from reading this book.

Another helpful book is called "The Encylopedia of Flowers." As with other botanical plants, this book can be indeed very helpful , for those of us who are interested in green houses .

I do not know where zone 5 is. I live in Northern Utah. For me it's between zone 6a and 6 b. Also your state gardening association could be a great help. Good luck.

How does one buy the purest form of a floral fragrance?

I know there are essential oils but even those are cut, usually. What and where can one purchase the purest form of a floral fragrance. I am particularly interested in violet, lilly and freesia.

How does one buy the purest form of a floral fragrance?
Another good thing would be to know or find out about your supplier and their reputation.

This rose oil site had interesting information:

http://www.roseotto.com/

This site had oils for all three of the fragrances you were looking for (among others.) They're listed in the aromatherapy oil areas:

Freesia - http://www.somaluna.com/cat/suns_eye_pur...

Lily -

http://www.somaluna.com/cat/suns_eye_pur...

Violet -

(I've not purchased from either of these sites so am unable to speak of their reputation/business ethics.)

Reply:Essential oils really are it. You just have to buy the ones that are of therapeutic quality to assure that they are not cut. Try Aromaland, they have a website.

What's the worst flower you can give someone?

Everyone knows that flowers have different meanings and messages, like a red rose is passion and freesia is innocene,

So what is the flower that has the worst meaning to it?

Just curious :D

Thanks!

What's the worst flower you can give someone?
A Calla Lily or Death Lily is a symbol of death.

Leaves can be confused with wild onions. Found in America and Siberia. It's fatal to humans and animals. Symptoms start with burning lips and grow to slow heart beat, low temperature, coma and finally death.
Reply:Thank you for giving me best answer! Cheers! Report It

Reply:I don't think there is a "worse flower" b/c if someone was to give you flowers at all it usually means that they care about you and took the time to pick something to give you, so it should be appreciated and as the old saying goes "it's the thought that counts" and even if you don't like it, common courtesy says you should at least pretend not to hurt their feelings.

Glads/June/Juy

Freesia - June/July

Orchid Glads/June/July

Canna/End of May

Sparaxis/June

Liatris/Mid-May

Asiati/Golden Splendor Lily late May

Dahlia = two weeks after planting outdors after all danger of frost - usually planted at end of April for mid-May start - can be started indoors in January and pinched back for lateral growth and nice bushy plants.

The above poster is correct in that these are not seedlings, as they come from bulbs, corms and tbers, but I new what you meant! ;^D
Reply:They are not seedlings; they are not coming from seed. It all depends on temps and mositure; at least a couple weeks.

Anyone tried Victoria's Secret *Sexual Secret* or Limited Edition *Isle Of Pink* perfumes?

What did they smell like? Which was better? Did you buy either?

(I'm a perfume -and- candle maniac and love smelling, buying and talking scents lol!)

*Sexual Secret*~Ultra-flirtatious, sexy and luscious to the core. This fragrance has a secret ingredient that lingers on the skin, an aphrodisiac so precious it is never to be revealed, but always remembered.

Fragrance type: fruity oriental

Top notes: red mandarin, pink mango

Middle notes: rose, lotus flower, jasmine

Low notes: white musk, amber, cashmere wood

*Isle Of Pink*~Think Caribbean beach club and cute cabana boys, with a flirty blend of raspberry sorbet, iced tulip and vanilla bean. It's a spring break vacation, in a bottle.

Fragrance type: fruity floral

Top notes: raspberry sorbet, pink currant, frozen mango, sugar apple, coconut water

Middle note: iced tulip, heliotrope, freesia water, rose nectar

Low notes: amber, cashmere musk, vanilla bean

Both sound scrumptious! And yes, I am a VS scent junkie! =D

Anyone tried Victoria's Secret *Sexual Secret* or Limited Edition *Isle Of Pink* perfumes?
I like anything that doesn't smell too strong, but smells fresh, not too subtle, yet not too obvious.

I bet my boyfriend would love the sexual secret smell! I know he'll pick that one without even smelling it because of the name!!!
Reply:My personal favorite in Victoria"s Secret scents is LOVE SPELL
Reply:As a man I can tell you which I prefer to smell. Sexual Secret. Usually I enjoy the more berryfruit scents on a woman, but between those two it's a clear winner.
Reply:Question is for sexual secret. Guys like the smell of gal while sex and not the perfume. I would prefer the smell of arm pits which exhale the sex urge. The colon water is best for sex drive . You seemed to be appealing so no need to have any perfume. Think that after application of perfume, if there is no appeal and if you are so called , what way the perfume can help.
Reply:I just got the limited edition Isle of Pink. I love it!

What do bluebells smell like?

I was just looking up bluebells in Wikipedia, and I think they are absolutely lovely. However, they are not common here in California...or at least not my part of it. Can anyone tell me what bluebells might smell like? Are they similar to freesia, or are they completely unique.

I would greatly like to know.

Quilting by machine question. Opinions on Fabumotion w/stitch regulator? Is it worth it? No $ for longarm!!?

No space or $ for a longarm or the space for EZ quilter. I want to step up my machine quilting abilities..but it's hard to do without some gadgetry. I have a Viking Freesia (love it) and want to start doing something a bit fancier in my quilting. Saw this Fabumotion w/stitch regulator at a show..but the back of the "test drive" quilt looked bad to me..not good proof of the value in this gadget. So asking for guidance by other quilters or those who have tried this thing. Dealers NOT welcome to answer, please!

Quilting by machine question. Opinions on Fabumotion w/stitch regulator? Is it worth it? No $ for longarm!!?
I have an SE and have played with the Fabumotion. I have been using a Teflon sheet attached to the quilting bed of my machine for a couple of years now and have been contemplating the Fabric mover. It does take some practice to get the hang of it, but I've seen some impressive stuff from people who hadn't spent too much time with it. I think a lot depends on how good you are with freemotion stitching to start with. If you are a good stippler, etc with your Freesia, then this wouldn't be a giant leap for you. The large work area and even stitching are what keep drawing me back to continue to look at it.

How do I grow bulbs in Zone 9 Houston, TX?

I have the following bulbs:

Freesia

Daffodil

Narcissus paperwhites

Tulips

It is October. They are to be planted between October and December. Do I go out and plant them or do I put them in my fridge until December? I am so confused. Should I supplement the soil with something?

How do I grow bulbs in Zone 9 Houston, TX?
In Houston, it's still very warm, as you know. Your bulbs require about 14 weeks of cold temperatures (although not freezing) to bloom successfully in the spring. That being the case, it's best to chill your bulbs in the fridge until the ground is cold for the winter. I've known people who simply kept them in the fridge until late January or early February. At that point, you can put them in the ground and you should be ok.

You probably won't need to put any fertilizers in the ground until next year, if the bulbs were healthy and good quality from a reputable supplier.
Reply:I might be wrong, but I believe Paperwhites are easy to grow in Houston without the fridge trick. Freesias are done in by the hot humid summers, not the lack of cold, I believe. They are from warm areas of the world, with hot DRY summers.

A caution: I have heard that one must be careful not to store bulbs near ripening fruits and vegetables in the fridge. I think it is the methane (?) gas the veggies put out that is harmful to the bulbs.

A suggestion: Give up on the northern bulbs and enjoy the great bulbs that grow in Houston that northerners would die for, like Rain Lilies (Zephranthes) Crinums, Spider Lilies (Hymenocallis), St Joseph's Lilies, Aztec Lilies, Lilies of the Nile (Agapanthus), Hurricane Lilies (Lycoris), and Tuberoses. Many are hard to find, and available mostly from neighbors and friends across-the-fence, but that is part of the fun.
Reply:Your bulbs need to be chilled in the refrigerator for 8 weeks at least. A good rule to go by in houston is to put them in around Halloween and take them out of the fridge and plant on New Year's day. You can use bone meal to put into the hole when you plant.

The Daffodils and paperwhites will probably naturalize because I have seen them growing in Houston before but the Tulips will not. You will have to treat these as annuals and next year plant a whole new bunch of bulbs. I am not sure about freesia, though.

Are most bulbed plants perrenials?

I just planted two types of bulbs I got at the store and it doesnty say if they are perrenials. They are freesia and gladioli. I assumed they would be since they are bulbs, is this true?

Are most bulbed plants perrenials?
All bulbs are pernnials, why else would a plant form a bulb but to protect itself during its domrant period.

This is not the answer you are looking for. You want to know if the bulbs your pruchased are hardy in your area.

Freesias and glads are typically not hardy unless you live in a warm climate where they will not freeze.

For most of us, Freesias an glads are typically planted each spring, they flower and then we dig them up in late autumn and store them or throw them away and buy new one the next year.
Reply:yes, they will continue to come up every spring.........annuals are plants that dont winter over, just try to keep the bulbs as dry as you can over the winter months so they dont rot, you can always dig them up
Reply:It depends where you live. Here in Maine, they would be annuals. We dig up glads to store them for the winter, but we don't bother with freesia because winter would come before it has a chance to mature.

If you are in zone 8 or higher, they're perennials. Here is a map so you can tell.

http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/wilds...

.
Reply:Perennials are well liked by many gardeners, there is a couple of main reasons for this. Not only will they bloom well for several seasons but they also come in a wide selection of shapes, colors and sizes. This is where perennial gardens differ to annuals.

Annuals have to planted every new season, where as perennials can remain in the ground to bloom for over a number of seasons. This makes the process of gardening with perennials a lot cheaper due to the fact that they do not need constantly replaced. The perennial garden is also much easier to maintain.

Take a look at my website.
Reply:Not all are, depending on where you live dahlias and some others need to be taken up,and stored over winter.

Ask the guys over at : http://www.lawnsite.com they have a homeowner Q%26amp;A section.

Hope this helps,

Need a replacement for discontinued AVON Natori perfume?

This is a wonderful (for my chemistry) perfume that is no longer manufactured by Avon, base notes: Freesia, violet, geranium, rose, orris, tonka bean, benzoin, sandalwood. Does anyone have any suggestions on similar scents?

Need a replacement for discontinued AVON Natori perfume?
Whenever Avon discontinues a fragrance, they normally have a replacement suggestion. Go to AVON.com and select the "assistance" button. Then select "contact us" and send them an e-mail asking what their suggestion is for the replacement of Natori. They normally answer the question in two days. Good luck!

Should the flower on the corsage and bouttoneire be the same?

I'm taking my friend to her prom, and we agreed to go ahead and do the whole flower bit. But I wasn't sure if I could get her an orchid, freesia, or some other flower I thought looked nice, and if so should I tell her what kind? Does it look bad if the flowers aren't matching, like a rose corsage and a rose bouttoneire together? Would it look TOO weird if I got her a different exotic type of flower and she gives me a rose bouttoneire?

Should the flower on the corsage and bouttoneire be the same?
Whatever you go with will be just fine. The most important thing is to ask her what color her dress is, so you can get her a flower that matches.

As far as whether both flowers should be the same, I don't think they need to be. I think they should be the same or similar in color though.

Just my opinion! :)
Reply:I would ask here, she may have a favourite flower.

Its very considerate of you to think about her likes %26amp; dislikes too

Good Luck %26amp; have a great time.
Reply:no they dont need to be, be traditional with a rose or white flower or a favorite you both want

I can not provide you with an organic solution but I can tell you how to control the vines.

The most effective herbicide is Round up. The problem is you have to be very careful not to get any on your plants. A little on the stem is not such a big deal but be careful.

There are other herbicides that you can use that are selective herbicides, which means they only control certain vegetation.

They require a little reading of labels and are generally not as effective.

I would hand pull the best I could to create a buffer around the plant and spray in between with Round up.

Good Luck

Do all bulbs come back year after year?

Do all bulbs come back year after year? I am looking at a book of flowers and most of them are bulbs. Some of the different flowers are Hardy Gladiolus, Ixia, Lilys, Ranunculus, Dahliias, Jalapa, Bleeding Hearts (which are not bulbs) and Freesia. Do all those flowers come back year after year? I think they do but not to sure.

Do all bulbs come back year after year?
If you plant bulbs that are winter hardy in your zone, then they should come back. However, tulips only last a couple of years, before being eaten by squirrels and stuff. Perhaps this is a problem with some other bulbs, as well. Daffodils, on the other hand, seem pretty invincible. They multiply nicely. So do crocus, Lilly of the valley (rhizomes, not bulbs, but close), and others. Research what will grow happily in your area. But I'd start with daffodils. They come in a large variety of colors and styles, and are quite satisfying. I also like Bleeding Hearts, which can be frozen out in the winter, and all day lillys, which also spread. Iris is also hardy and spreads to the point of needing thinning. Hostas, also rhizomes, like iris and lilly of the valley, spread nicely, and are hardy in most zones, too.
Reply:Most will,I have some that we planted in 1974!They bloom every spring. Just for the record, I planted tulips about eight years ago. I have them bloom every year, some are starting to come up now!
Reply:Some flowering bulbs do come back every year, but it depends heavily on what zone you live in. Glads, ranunculus, dahlias and freesia need to be dug up and stored in a cool location in the fall if you live where the ground will freeze. Tulips and daffodils and bleeding hearts don't have to be dug up and will overwinter just fine. However, tulips don't flower for more than two years in a row, generally their first year is the best.
Reply:No. some need to be dug out of the ground and re-planted every year. Now, granted some will come back anyway but if you don't want to chance loosing them then dig em up and put them in the basement of even your fridge. And some that do come back every year could turn into squirrel or other rodent food. So I would watch whats hardy in your area and plant from there.
Reply:Yes unless they rot in the ground or a rodent eats them.
Reply:------------no

not all bulbs come back year after year

for a bulb to come back it has to be planted in the right conditions in the right climate zone.

Many bulbs and other plants have the potential to come back each year- they are called perennials.

of the list you gave

I do quite well with Bleeding Hearts in my garden

but the moles and voles wreak havoc on the lilies,

Gladiolus, ixia, dahlias, freesia- are not tolerant of the temperatures during winter here so they must be stored inside.

Dahlias get eated by the deer

Lilies bloom when it is hot so the flowers don't last long

you might do some more reading specific to your area

find out your climate zone

pussy!

I suffer from asthma can freesias affect it when i have some in house i cant breath?

If my asthma is playing up then having freesias in the house does make it worse.

So glad you posted up this question! I've always been a bit embarrassed about it and thought I must be weird!

I suffer from asthma can freesias affect it when i have some in house i cant breath?
wow yes hun all flowers can but freecias are so pungent bin them love xxx
Reply:here is the link for natural astma cure and prevention, this might help take a look..
Reply:yes all flowers that produce strong scents can aggravate asthma and hayfever etc, and freesias are quite strongly scented.
Reply:All flowers can affect asthma sufferers... some worse than others. Fresia and Lilys are notorious due to the large amount of pollen. My son has asthma and i can never have fresh cut flowers in the house (not that anyone ever buys me them). Its the pollen that causes hay-fever that affects the chest/lungs etc. Best thing to do is just to enjoy them from a distance... unfortunately.
Reply:maybe you are allergic to them? i would just avoid them completly if i was you. they have a very strong fragrance, so maybe that could be setting of your asthma.
Reply:Put them outside, if symptoms subside, leave them outside.

( I know, thats bad grammar, too many 'sides')

Los Angeles has come upon some intel that suggests

that terrorists are attempting to pull off something

like 9/11. They are going to hijack a plane from

Quebec into New York in about two hours, and they will

attack the newly built Farrell Building there.

Jack doesn’t care. He wonders when Freesia was going

to tell him this, she says she wasn’t, she was just

going to break up with him that day and leave the

house. Jack is astonished, then he realizes she asked

to move to Quebec last month just because of this

intel, and he also realizes she was going to be the

agent to go on the plane and attempt to stop this.

She then receives a call from Bill Buchanan and he

asks if she is ready to go on the plane. Out of

impulse Jack grabs the phone and demands that he goes

on the plane so that Freesia doesn’t die.

Bill is stunned to learn that Freesia had been dating

Jack, but he says he will let Jack go.

Freesia asks Jack not to go for her, but he says he is

going because he doesn’t want her to possibly die. He

also says he cannot stand another painful relationship

with lies involved and so he breaks up with her.

Over time Jack gets on the plane with a gun that he

buys. He gets on with the gun because he explains the

situation and that his mission is to be covert.

After the plane takes off and Jack manages to

establish contact with CTU Los Angeles and CTU

Minneapolis things switch back over to Freesia. It is

revealed when she gets a phone call from a terrorist

that she was supposed to get on the plane and initiate

the attack. She turns out to be a Canadian separatist

and a terrorist.

While Jack is on the plane Chloe, who is still

pregnant, begins searching names on the ticket list of

the plane and then she will cross-reference their

names with their known terrorist archive.

As the search for the terrorist continues Freesia, who

is really named Jeanette Bordeaux, meets with three

men who have stolen a U.S. Military plane that is

very, very fast. Apparently it could get to New York

before the plane does. Their Plan B is that once she

gets there she will use a device to cause the attack.

It is later revealed once she gets to New York that

the U.S. will be forced to shoot down the plane

because that will be the only way to stop the possible

hijacking, and her device will override the missiles

they will shoot and cause them to hit the Farrell

Building, and this will be better because it will look

like the U.S. attempting a false flag attack on

themselves.

In the middle of Chloe’s search she realizes her water

has broken and Morris has to rush her off to the

hospital. Bill doesn’t know how to run the search and

so he has to quickly get two replacements from

Division. After the replacements come the search

continues and the replacements learn that no one on

board has any terrorist history.

Jack suddenly realizes that Freesia was going to be on

the plane, and he asks them to search her name. They

begin to, but then Wayne Palmer, who is still the

president and has managed to recover, orders them to

shoot the plane down.

To make a long story short things go according to

Jeanette’s Plan B, and she overrides the missiles and

the Farrell Building is blown up.

Jack realizes that he was set up to distract the U.S.

while Freesia set up the missile override. He has his

theory confirmed when the replacements reveal that

Freesia was an alias and that her real name is

Jeanette Bordeaux.

Back in New York, as the citizens panic with what

looks like another 9/11, Jeanette manages to escape.

She enters a gas station and she asks a man there if

his car is the Corvette outside that was just filled

outside. He says it is and she says she is turned on

by Corvettes.

She then lures this man into the bathroom and says she

will have sex with him, when he gets in the bathroom

she drowns him in the toilet. Then she leaves with his

credit card. She manages to get the gas pump next to

the Corvette going with the card and she pulls out a

lighter and causes an explosion with the pump. This

kills herself and it blows up the entire gas station.

Jack manages to be grounded and he begins showing cops

Jeanette’s photo from his wallet at the airport. He

learns from one cop that amidst all of the panic at

the moment someone in his unit managed to spot this

woman. He gets a report back from this cop who says

the gas station she just went into just blew up. Jack

knows this was no accident.

Simultaneously the people in Washington D.C. see the

attack on the Farrell Building as a false flag since

the news reported that the missiles came from American

fighter jets. They begin a riot outside of the White

House.

Wayne and his staff escape in a helicopter that is

being sent immediately to New York to get a hold of

the situation. The rioters manage to get inside the

White House and they start a fire.

Jack calls CTU Los Angeles and tells them that

Jeanette caused an explosion at a gas station and thus

committed suicide. The replacements, Gerald Perish and

Erica Amos, reveal to Jack that Jeanette works for a

group of Canadian separatists. The leader is named

Pierre Fache. Jack wants background information on

Fache.

Back in Quebec, Fache is aptly watching events occur

on the television. He receives a call and is told to

start some shooting at the White House.

Fache then calls a SWAT person who is at the riot at

the White House and he tells him to start a shooting.

This SWAT person then starts shooting as many rioters

as he can. This triggers more shootings and more

deaths. In the midst of all of this a fire truck team

manages to put out the fire on the White House. Some

SWAT agents move in on the house and receive orders

from the agent who Fache called to shoot all of the

rioters who are on the inside. They begin shooting

everyone.

As the riot gets hotter one rioter sees Wayne’s

helicopter and grabs a SWAT agent’s gun and shoots up

at it.

The pilot of the helicopter says the engine has been

shot from the ground. Slowly the helicopter begins to

go down.

Jack is aptly watching the news at the airport and

hears of the breaking news that Wayne’s copter is

going down. He quickly calls Wayne’s cell phone and he

directs Wayne in how to safely land the helicopter. He

then tells Wayne that he will need to keep running

from the White House because the rioters will try to

kill him still.

The SWAT agent calls Fache and tells him that Wayne

managed to land the helicopter, Fache is outraged and

demands that he goes and kills Wayne so that it looks

lie not even SWAT thinks the attack on the Farrell

Building was an accident.

Jack demands that he get a helicopter so he can get to

Washington D.C. and attempt to stop the fighting.

Meanwhile, an agent from CTU Minneapolis, who is named

Phil Anders, is sent by Bill Buchanan to go into

Quebec and see if he can locate and capture Fache.

Jack is in the helicopter he requested and is heading

to D.C.

Quickly, Fache receives another call; it is revealed

that the person on the other line is ex-Vice President

Noah Daniels. Daniels says that he did not fund this

attack to be failed; he demands that Wayne be found

and killed.

When Daniels hangs up it is seen that out of the

window of his house a sniper is watching from some

bushes. Daniels gets on a radio and says into it,

“There! Fache is handling the assassination of Wayne

Palmer! Happy?” And the sniper answers back, “It is

good to know that threatening your life has made all

of this happen!”

Meanwhile, Wayne enters a restaurant with the pilot of

the helicopter. Here he demands to speak to the

manager. The manager asks what could possibly concern

the president. Wayne tells him there are rioters

outside of the White House and he wishes to hide out

here, disguised as a waiter, so that the rioters can’t

find him. The manager gives him a waiter’s uniform and

comments on how the safety of this country is a

fantasy.

Soon, the SWAT team agent comes into the restaurant

and shoots up the ceiling. He says he saw the

president walk in and demands to know where he is. He

says he must either kill the president or kill

everyone in the restaurant. Wayne jumps out along with

the pilot and they attack the agent. Wayne manages to

stab the man’s hand with a fork and this causes him to

drop his gun.

Wayne then begins to interrogate the agent. Panic has

of course broken out at the restaurant.

The agent will not say whom he is working for, and

Wayne says he knows who can help them get information

out of him. When the pilot guesses Wayne means Jack,

Wayne says no. Wayne says he is going to go to Noah

Daniels’s house and see what Noah can do.

They get the SWAT agent’s keys and get into his car.

Meanwhile, Phil Anders lands his helicopter in Quebec

near a cabin. Phil goes into the cabin with his gun

drawn and a suitcase in his hand.

After a little search of the cabin Phil finds Fache.

Fache asks if Phil brought the package. Phil opens the

suitcase and it is revealed that this is one of the

suitcase nukes Fayed had threatened to use.

“Fayed failed at using this. It is time to finish the

job!” says Fache. Phil says that some CTU agents may

have followed him here since he took the nuke and they

probably noticed. Fache tells him to shoot any agents

who come while he gets in another plane like the one

Jeanette used to fly over Chicago and then blow up the

city. When Phil asks what he should do if there are

too many agents Fache says, “A bullet to the head will

fix that problem.” He then leaves the cabin.

Wayne gets to Noah’s house in the car. On the radio,

the sniper asks who has pulled up. Noah says he

doesn’t know. When the sniper sees that it is Wayne he

says he will shoot Wayne. Quickly Noah runs out into

his driveway and runs in front of Wayne and takes the

bullet. Wayne sees what’s going on and he gets down.

Wayne begins firing at the sniper with the gun he got

from the SWAT agent.

As Noah is dying he says that the sniper threatened to

kill him if he did not cause Wayne’s death. Wayne

manages to shoot the sniper, but not fatally. As he

goes over to the sniper Jack sees Wayne on his PDA in

the helicopter via satellite and he begins to land.

When Jack touches down Wayne tells Jack about

everything that has happened. Jack demands to

interrogate both the sniper and the SWAT agent.

Jack calls Bill and tells him about the sniper and

everything. Bill tells him to interrogate the captured

men. Bill then receives a call from CTU Minneapolis.

They tell him Phil Anders stole the suitcase nuke they

had possessed from CTU Los Angeles and they believe he

gave it to Fache. Bill says this is great Déjà Vu.

After he hangs up he suddenly begins to twitch and to

fall over. The other CTU agents see this and they call

in the medical team.

Meanwhile, Jack is interrogating the sniper. The

sniper says he wants immunity before he says anything.

Wayne grants it because he doesn’t know what else to

do.

The sniper says an Asian man that he only met once

hired him and he doesn’t know his name. Jack asks if

the sniper ever had any pictures of the man that he

could send to CTU to locate the man who hired him. The

sniper says he has photos at his house. Jack says he

wants to be brought to the sniper’s house, but first

he wants information from the SWAT agent.

Jack then gets a call from CTU. They inform Jack that

Bill just had a heart attack and that he’s just gone

to the hospital. Jack asks if anyone knew of Bill’s

heart condition. No one knew about it, and they

suspect it was stress-related. Jack is in a state of

shock.

They also Jack who he thinks is qualified to run CTU.

Jack says Mike Doyle is. This is the end of the call.

Jack then demands that the SWAT agent tells him whom

he is working for. After Jack threatens to use a

chainsaw he finds in Noah’s garage to saw off one of

the SWAT agent’s arms he reveals he received phone

calls from Fache that were orders. He was hired by

Fache to start shootings at the White House and then

to assassinate Wayne. When Jack asks what caused Fache

to attack the U.S., the SWAT agent says Fache is a

terrorist extremist who was funded by Noah to cause

these attacks. The sniper says that Noah funded Fache

because he had started watching his house and

threatened to kill him. Jack realizes that everything

revolves around him finding the man who hired the

sniper and then arresting him.

Meanwhile, Mike Doyle is instated as CTU Los Angeles’s

Director. He then receives a call from CTU

Minneapolis. The CTU Minneapolis Director, Carl

Francis, tells him that Phil Anders was captured up in

Quebec. They were told that Fache escaped with the

suitcase nuke. Mike was not aware of any of this, and

says he wants a recap. He tells Carl that he is the

new director since Bill had a heart attack.

Carl informs Mike about everything. Then as Jack as

driving to the sniper’s house Mike calls him and

informs him of the suitcase nuke. Jack also comments

on the Déjà Vu. Jack tells Mike to locate the plane

Fache escaped in and to shoot it down. Mike says this

wouldn’t be the best idea since this could trigger the

nuke to go off. Jack says he’ll come up with something

and call back.

Jack pulls up to the sniper’s house. Jack tells Wayne

to wait in the car, since he has gone with him. Jack

and the sniper enter the house. Suddenly Jack sees a

bomb. In his haste he jumps out of the window as the

bomb goes off.

Wayne is shocked to see this, but before he can react

two vans come by and armed men jump out. They shoot

both the pilot and the SWAT agent, but they grab Wayne

and kidnap him.

Jack wakes up a little too late.

At the hospital Bill is seen awake. A doctor comes in

and tells him he had a near fatal heart attack. He

will for now need to stay away from CTU because the

stress-level could cause him to have a second attack

that could kill him. The doctor recommends rest and so

Bill is left to sleep.

Jack comes to and sees that the house was indeed blown

up. He then finds an ashen photograph in the debris.

He sees that this photo is of Cheng Zhi. Jack realizes

Cheng hired the sniper and thus was behind everything

that happened today. “Son of a *****!” Jack says.

Jack calls Mike and has him confirm that Cheng is

indeed in holding in Africa. Mike says that after

looking at the archive it looks like Cheng’s file was

destroyed. Jack tells Mike about what he found.

Things switch over to Africa where Cheng is seen

waling calmly through a village there. He pulls out a

satellite phone and calls someone. It’s Fache. Cheng

tells Fache to bring the nuke to him as promised so

that he can retrieve the circuit board and thus aid

China against Russia lie he had planned before. Fache

says he doesn’t care about what Cheng wants; he just

wants to blow up Chicago as he had planned. Cheng

demands that Fache does as he’s ordered to do. Fache

asks Cheng how he can stop him when he’s in Africa.

Fache then hangs up.

Cheng calls some mercenaries and tells them that Fache

is no longer working for him. He tells them to stop

Fache’s plane and to obtain the nuke. They can blow up

any city they want with it, but they must get the

circuit board back to China where it can be analyzed

and thus it can be decrypted for Chinese Military use.

The mercenaries are already in a plane. They are right

next to Fache’s plane. Fache sees how Cheng could stop

him from Africa. Quickly Fache shoots the mercenaries’

plane down and it crashes.

At CTU Los Angeles Mike hears about Fache’s plane

crashing in Chicago from Carl. Mike tells Carl to send

a TAC team from CTU Chicago to the crash site along

with a HAZMAT team. Carl goes ahead and does that.

Fache climbs out of the plane alive with the nuke in

hand. He immediately opens it. Out of nowhere comes

the CTU Chicago TAC Team. They ask that he step away

from the device. He refuses and is about to detonate

the bomb when suddenly the mercenaries show up and

kill Fache. A gunfight ensues and the TAC Team is

taken out. As the HAZMAT team arrives the mercenaries

escape with the nuke. The HAZMAT Team calls Carl and

tells him about the mercenaries and their escape with

the weapon. Carl hangs up and then receives another

call. It is from Cheng.

Cheng says that he is upset with Carl because he

organized Cheng’s escape, but failed to coordinate his

trip back to the United States. Carl apologizes and

hangs up.

Carl then calls Jack. Carl reveals to Jack that he

coordinated Cheng’s escape, but now he wants to help

Jack stop the terrorists by sending Cheng to

Washington D.C. where Jack can question him and get

some more information. Jack is grateful for this

opportunity and asks Carl if he knows where the

mercenaries are bringing the nuke. Carl says he will

call Cheng and find out, but first he must reveal

himself to his co-workers and explain the situation.

Cheng then calls the men in the vans that have

kidnapped Wayne. He tells them to allow him to talk to

Wayne. When Wayne finds out Cheng is behind everything

he is shocked. Cheng says his men have control of one

of the nukes Fayed had used before and that Wayne must

let Cheng get away with the circuit board or he will

order the men to kill him. Wayne refuses and as a

shocking twist Wayne is killed then and there.

Jack is driving and he sees the vans that took away

Wayne. Quickly, Jack shoots the vans’ tires and a

gunfight ensues. Long story short, Jack kills all of

the men and finds Wayne’s corpse. Jack yells out “Why

did this have to happen? Why does everybody I care

about die?” In surrender, Jack points his own gun at

his head; he is about to commit suicide when the phone

rings again.

Jack throws away the gun and answers it. It’s Cheng

and he asks if Wayne is dead. Jack reveals himself and

tells him he knows about him being the mastermind of

today’s attack. Cheng quickly hangs up.

To make this story short Cheng calls Carl back and

lets him know that the attack will take place in

Washington D.C., then he calls the mercenaries who

have the nuke and he tells them the nuke must go off

in order to distract America so that Cheng can have

the package delivered. When he hangs up a supersonic

plane lands nearby. Inside the pilot, who is attached

to Carl Francis back in Minneapolis, brings Cheng.

Cheng grabs a gun and shoots him. Then he flies the

plane by himself.

Things twist some more, more plot would need to be

written, but eventually the mercenaries arrive in

Washington D.C., they manage to get in the White

House. As a twist, they need the bomb activated

properly by an engineer, who turns out to be Charles

Logan, who has changed his name and grown a lot of

hair to change his appearance. Jack finds out that

after Logan was brought to the hospital in the last

season he was saved by the doctors, and he managed to

escape. He’s been living under the name Mitchell

Flanders.

The TAC team from Secret Service who will help him

deal with the bomb meets Jack, but Jack soon gets a

call from Cheng. Cheng tells him that “things are not

as they seem” and that “soon there will be more deaths

across the globe.” Cheng also tells Jack that his

mercenaries have managed to compromise CTU Minneapolis

and that Carl Francis is dead.

While Cheng is on the phone Jack manages to trace

Cheng’s phone, and it appears Cheng is not anywhere

near Washington D.C., but he is actually in New York.

Jack has Mike send a plane to bring him to New York.

While the Secret Service TAC team surrounds the White

House, where the terrorists have managed to bring the

bomb, and military tanks show up, something goes wrong

and Logan sets off the bomb. Washington D.C. is nuked.

Logan had become suicidal, a side-plot, before this

because he had lost his life, his wife, and his

presidency.

Cheng then lands his plane in New York and meets

someone in a building. We do not see this person’s

face until he is actually in a room with this person.

The person is Kimberly Bauer, Jack’s daughter. She has

with her another one of the nukes. Cheng manages

thanks Kim for her hassle. Then he removes the circuit

board and leaves Kim. Then he tells her, “What you

have done here today will help change the world. Soon,

China will rule the world!”

Somehow Jack makes to New York just in time to watch

Cheng’s plane get away.

After all of this confusion, the Vice President, who

has been instated as the new president, Jacob Gary,

arrives on the scene and on the news announces that

because Jack failed to stop Cheng that America will

have no choice but to conduct war with the Russians as

they had feared they might last season.

At the end of all of this Cheng calls Jack again and

tells him of how Kim helped him get the second nuke

and thus, getting him the circuit board he desired.

Jack soon finds Kim, and Mike tells Jack to shoot her

right then and there, because if he doesn’t know she

will most likely be sentenced to death anyway.

Kim says she got into aiding the Chinese when Chase

died, and she had gone to China for help. Instead she

had ended up being recruited by Cheng.

The season ends with Jack having to shoot Kim, and

then he screams at himself for a minute, then a TAC

team from CTU New York City shows up and one agent

tries to stop Jack from committing suicide. The agent

wrestles Jack for his gun and Jack is accidentally

shot in the leg. This is not a serious injury, but for

Jack’s own safety the handcuff him as they drag him

off in an ambulance to receive immediate attention.
